At the end of March, 2017, MMC staff dispatched the pilots from its R&D center in headquarter to Yunnan Province, China to have high altitude test for hydrogen fuel cell drone HyDrone 1550. The Yulong Snow Mountain and Baima Snow mountain were selected as test base for unique environmental conditions like their high altitude and low temperature. The test flight of the hydrogen powered drone HyDrone 1550 at the altitude of 2200m, 2499m, 3200m, 3700m, 4292m performed very well, according to the statics transmitted to the ground station.

The power system efficiency of common drone in high mountains is lower than that in plain area for thin air in high altitude, which place a greater performance requirements for fuel cells. ” Before we set off, We applied new power system on hydrogen powered drone HyDrone 1550 in order to achieve higher efficiency.” said Mr. Tang, the manager of R&D Department of fuel cell. The test data and video were taken by the team to make further research on hydrogen fuel cell technology.
The Yulong Snow Mountain and Baima Snow mountain are a multi-functional tourist destinations for sightseeing, mountain climbing, adventure, expedition, vacation, and picnic. MMC HyDrone 1550 plays very effective role in rescue when combined with telecommunications network once accident happens.
HyDrone 1550, MMC’s hydrogen powered drone which is made of the carbon fiber and powered by hydrogen fuel cell, breaks the limitations of the lithium battery for its flight endurance reaches 3 hours. Its advantages are long flight endurance, easy operation and high safety efficiency. The responding time towards emergencies is much shorter while effective coverage area quite lager.
